History
By 2002 the previous Junior League in Salford had virtualy disbanded, and many local Clubs were forced to join far away Leagues to continue their football. This resulted in several Salford Clubs getting together to set-up a new Mini-Soccer League, and to attempt to re-establish youth football on a local basis. They were Barrhill, Beechfield United, De La Salle, Langworthy Juniors, Moorside Rangers, Parkwyddn and Swinton Juniors. Valley Crusaders joined as a new Club for the first season, and Middleton Boys and Urmston Town became "honourary" Salford Clubs by helping to set up the League. The League had 34 Teams at 3 age-groups for 2003/04, which by 2008 has become 108 Teams across 6 age-groups. Being a new League we were able to encompass things like the new Child Protection regulations, the changes to non-competitive at Under 7 & 8, and to build up a solid Management Committee which is now 18 strong. Jack Green has been the League President from 2003, and the League has profited from the Chairmanships of Ged Goodwin, Colin Carter and currently Brian Elsey. Ken Barnes, Dave Wood and Linda Hodgson have all been in post as League Trustees since day one, which adds consistency across the League, although
Ken has had to call it a day this season, and he will be missed by the League. The League is now seeking new horizons in becoming a FA Charter Standard League, and the addition of Tracey Henry as the Development Officer has made this a definite possibility for the future. The League has already been given Pilot Charter Standard status by the FA in 2008, a remarkable acheivement for a very young League. Our main objectives now are to strengthen the
Youth Football and build a progression from U-11 to U-16, and add Girls Football to the itinery. Exciting times ahead in Salford for all involved, providing we can continue improving the League year on year.
